Q: Will you be traveling alone?
Yes, I am cycling alone (although I’ll have my trusted bike for company). However, I will be constantly meeting new people along the way so I won’t be getting too lonely.

Q: What will you eat and where will you stay?
Everything vegetarian I can get my hands on. I’m really looking forward to the different food in each country, especially the cake! I do have quite a big appetite so if you see me cycling towards your restaurant then watch out!
I am planning to stay in hostels along the way but also have a tent and a sleeping bag for camping when accommodation is not available. I hope to get to know the people of the countries I’m passing through so I’m avoiding going to exclusively tourist hotels.

Q: What is the total distance to Beijing; what distance do you intend to do per day?
In total it will be around 12,000kms and I’ll be doing at least 8,000kms cycling (I will have to take trains and buses to make sure that I get back in time for university). Through Europe, I intend to cycle about 110kms per day but through more mountainous areas such as Kyrgyzstan about 30kms per day.

Q: What will you do when your bike breaks down?
Fix it myself, if that doesn’t work then I will go to a bike shop to get it fixed and if they can’t help then I will have to have spare parts posted to me (I really hope this doesn’t happen too often).

Q: How much luggage are you carrying?
Only what I can carry on my bike. I will have two 20L panniers on my back rack, two 12.5L panniers on the front and a 7L bar bag as well as my tent on my back rack. This means that I can only carry what I really need rather than every creature comfort imaginable.

Q: What will be your biggest challenges?
My journey is going to involve physical challenges as I cycle for 6 months through mountains and deserts. It will also involve cultural challenges as I try to navigate through 14 countries without being fluent in their languages as well as bureaucratic challenges as I try to enter some of the world’s least accessible nations.
